You can’t make good wine out of bad grapes
When we began this journey of discovery 20 years ago, we committed to quality by investing in the best possible growing conditions for our vines. We began by removing more than three feet of existing dirt down to native loam. Then, we imported more than 100 tons of sandy soil, specially mixed for optimum grape production, and installed a state-of-the-art drip irrigation system. Our seasoned vineyard manager, Alberto Hernandez, continues to meticulously care for the grapes — constantly pruning the vines to create the perfect canopy of protection from the desert sun. And every year, we choose to limit the yield per acre to three tons instead of the more common six because the best way to produce high-quality grapes is to produce less of them.
